Abstract:
The objective of this research is to evaluate of skin and base resistance of axially loaded pile from pile load tests. Most of the published methods for separating skin and base resistance from pile load test data requires either special instrumentation or special test procedure .In all problems dealing with safety evaluation of pile foundations, the safety factors with respect to deformation have to be estimated. Moreover, to understand the effects of pile installation on load transfer mechanism, it is required to gain information on actual skin and base resistance individually. Such considerations necessitate an appropriate evaluation of skin and base resistance beforehand. Pile load test is the most reliable method to determine pile capacity. However, ordinary pile load test can only give the total pile capacity with the pile displacement. Many investigators had proposed various methods to interpret the results from pile load test data. Generally, the interpretation methods can be divided into two categories according to the objective of required capacities. These categories are:1) Methods to evaluate the ultimate pile capacity and2) Methods to evaluate the skin and base resistance. A comprehensive investigation on the published methods for interpretation of pile load tests data is carried out through Chapter 3.
