Abstract:
Summary and Conclusions: According to this study, summary could be divided into two majorparts. The first one is concerned with the study of the results of irrigation improvement project (lIP), in two command areas. The last one is putting a system to improve Bahr Mashtoul Command Area. Conclusions could be divided into two major parts. The first one is calculation of the benefits of improving system. The last type of conclusions is related to the application of the computer programming on the case study.9.1.1- Summary of the Results of (lIP):I-After improving Saidiya Canal, benefits come from:a- Increased crop yield by improving the capability and efficiency of the delivery system to meet water requirements throughout the served area.b- Improved management, IAS (Irrigation Advisory Service), will improve the management capabilities of the farmers, so that, water will be more effectively.c- The direct saving of 42.7 million cubic meters of water annually.d- Reduced Operation and Maintenance (O&M) costs 2- After improving Mahmoudia Canal, benefits come from:a- Increased crop yield.b- Increased on-farm efficiencies from 0.61 to 0.74, delivery efficiencies from 0.72 to 0.9 and overall efficiencies from- 4.1 % saving in the irrigation requirements• by shifting the planting dates -of wheat and cotton backward and shifting the planting dates of rice and maize forward.d- Using the automatic gates, which solve tail end irrigation problems, and creates storage capacity during period of closure.9.1.2- Summary of the Improving System of Bahr Mashtoul:a- The main system will operate under continuous flow and providing downstream control through the use of automatic downstream water level control gates.Ib- Change the surface mesqa to concrete lined mesqa (J-Section), orlow pressure pipelines according to the area served and the discharge.c- Using the nontraditional water resources such as reuse of drainage water and groundwater.9.1.3- Conclusions of the Benefits of Improving System:a- After calculation of area served and discharge before development, and the expected area served and discharge after development, it was found that, a saving in water quantities equal to 906.15 LISec, and saving in land areas equal to 2.23 feddans can be obtained.b- The total cost for the total project mesqas (36 mesqas), after lIP is 6,225,038.3 LE, while it was 4~483,281 LE before lIP. The total net benefits for the total project mesqas after lIP is 21,214,908.21 LE, while it was 18,978,866 LE before lIP.
