Abstract:
A simulation model is constructed for single spool industrial gasturbine used for electric power generation of 3.5 MW at standardconditions. Matlab Simulink software is used to construct themodel that simulates both steady state and transient behavior of theengine. Energy and mass conservation equations are used and amathematical model is manipulated for each engine module(compressor, combustion chamber, turbine, fuel system, controllerand electric generator). Compressor and turbine characteristicsmaps were obtained from asp (gas turbine simulation program)software and relativised to match engine design point. Allequations are solved using bisection method. As the control system is very important to the engine which isresponsible for regulating fuel flow rate to the engine to maintainthe required speed and load without exceeding operational limitssuch as (overheat, flameout or compressor surge). A completesimulation for the control system was constructed as a part of thecomplete engine simulation. To validate the results of the work, acomparison between engine steady state results and asp softwaremodel for the same engine and also the field operational actualdata were done. The three results are fairly close to each other. The results for transient simulation model are plotted (pressure andtemperature at the outlet of each engine module, fuel flow rate, engine speed, etc) during engine loading and unloading. Resultsfor normal operating condition are also compared with somespecial operating conditions such as fuel type change, compressor.
