Abstract:
The main aim of the present work is to investigate the effect of fireand its extinguishing agents on the properties of both concrete and steelreinforcement.Different concrete cubes and beam specimens were used according tostandard specification to investigate the effect of fire and extinguishingagents on both compressive and flexural strength of concreteOn other hand tensile tests were carried out on steel bars after theirremoval from the concrete beams previously tested in flexure.Experimental results indicated that in case of one sided cube fire, asfiring time increases, the compressive strength of concrete decreases as aresult of differential thermal expansion of aggregate and hydratedcement.whereas fire were localized in two opposite sides of the concretecubes, the damage volume during heating and cooling doubles and theresult is further reduction in the compressive strength of concrete.Reinforcing steel bars are unaffected by heating time and cooling
