Earth roads wi 11 continue to form an important portion of the local road netowrk in Egypt.Decision making at the network level is concerned with the selection of individual sections of roads for maintenance in accordance with the availability of funds and ,therefore,a matter of the assignment of priorities related to needs.For effective maintenance program, a specified data about the roads condition is requi red. It is important to provide information that can be directly employed in maint enance management system. The most important step, however, is its own condition assessment subsystem.The objective of the proposed study was to analyze earth roads condition in Egypt, to provide an index for the roadcondi tion assessment and to develop a cost mode 1 in which associated repair costs could be determined.The results of this study involved the cost of periodic and routine maintenance required to renew road sections. The relation between road condition and repair cost was quantifi-ed. Also, the results indicated that the environmental factors have a very significant effect on road conditionand,consequently, on maintenance and repair costs.
