Use of high absorptive limestone in hot asphalt mixes

This study concerned with finding a suitable treatment of high absorptive limestone produced in Sharkia Governorate (SL) which enables to use it in hot paving. So, it strivesto reduce asphalt requirments of SL mixes as well asimproving their characteristics.approaches Two were investigated. The first was to reduce the effect of the high absorption value of SL on the optimum asphalt content andproperties of SL mixes. It included studying the effect of mixing temperature, mix gradation, type of mineral filler, type of asphalt and mixing procedure. While, the second wasto treat SL it self using Aniline-Furfural solution to reduce its absorption value.The study shows that a considerable reduction in asphalt requirments can be achieved applying the followingcond it ions :a- Higher mixing temperatures,b- Gradation 1 (Coarse gradation),c- Limestone mineral filler,d- 60-70 per asphalt cement, and or mixing half e-Normal mixing procedurecontent with filler, then adding the rest mix and mixing again.asphalt of the The field performance of the SL mixture of the previousconditions was checked applying the investigation tests
