Abstract:
”Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) deliver information thatenables the optimization of production activities from order launch tofinished goods. Using current and accurate data, MES guides, initiates, responds to, and reports on plant activities as they occur. Theresulting rapid response to changing conditions, coupled with a focuson reducing non value-added activities, drives effective plant>operations and processes. MES Improves the return on operationalassets as well as on-time delivery, inventory turns, gross margin, andcash flow performance. MES provides mission-critical informationabout production activities across the enterprise and supply chain viabi-directional communications. ”[12JMESA has defined MES as follows:MES is a set of software functions that integrates production data andwork with operations management systems, people and practices tosupport operations excellence. (Source: MESA Internationa/).[1 JAnother definition is:MES is the set of software functions that integrates production dataand work with operations management systems, people and practicesto support operations excellence. (Source: MESA International [19]).Fortunately, MES is available and already field-proven. MES canprovide facility-wide views of critical production process and productdata in a format that is usable by supervisors, operators, management, and others in the enterprise and supply chain.Literature Review
