Abstract:
The study of thermal stresses in structures is very important especiallywhen these structures may be exposed to fire. This work reports atheoretical study of thermal stresses in reinforced concrete slabs. Theconcrete slab is subjected to uniform and nonunifonn temperaturedistribution along its thickness. In this work, a computer pro gram is prepared to analyze the nonlinearbehavior of reinforced concrete slabs under the effect of fire and subjectedto any type of vertical loading. The program takes into consideration theexistence of one or two steel reinforcement layers. The support conditions considered in this thesis are either fixed, orsimply supported, or supported on columns at different positions. All thecases considered with different support conditions and different aspect ratiosare discussed under the effect of fire and the own weight of the slab.Parameters studied under the effect of elevated temperatures include;the slab thickness, the slab aspect ratio, the amount of steel reinforcement, the number of steel layers, the steel grade, and the cover thickness. Theeffect of the above mentioned parameters are studied on the slab deflectionsand bending moment distribution along the slab length and breadth.
