Abstract:
This thesis presents a comprehensive transient stabil ity as se ssnent forthe SCECO-Central electrical power system including 380kV interconnectiontie line with SCECO-East. Two distinct methodologies are considered anddiscussed. The first is the time domain simulation and the second is thetransient energy direct method. Seven disturbances at differentlocations are considered to evaluate the system stability at heavy and1 i ght load conditi ons. The assessment confi rms that the SCECO-Centra 1power system is stable for all disturbances considered except when a3-phase fault is applied to the interconnector bus 9001 and cleared after0.3 second. Excitation system parametric variation analysis is given andthe important role of these parameters in the system stability margin ishighlighted. The stability assessment using the energy method providesan energy margin profile which can be used to make a contingency analysisfor the system.
