Abstract:
The proposed study ”the pool” is considered a new technique used tocontrol the hydraulic jump formed in stilling basins by making DROP in bed levelfollowed by rise in bed level. A theoretical study was done using thedimensional analysis to reach relations correlating the different designparameters of the pool. Moreover, the one dimensional momentum equationand the continuity equation were used to deduce theoretical design equationswhich correlate the initial Froude number and different parameters of the pool.In addition, the energy equation was used to derive theoretical equations for therelative energy loss of the jump occurred in pool stilling basin. An experimental study was done in radial stilling basin with expansionratio of 0.667. Studies were made to find the effective length and depth of pool, which gives maximum energy loss, minimum length of jump and minimumrelative depth.Studies were made by providing other control techniques in addition withthe pool such as adding sills or steps in the bed of the pool or providing roundedpool end or using inlet or outlet slopes.
