Abstract:
In Egypt, the increase in industrial activities over the past years hascontributed significantly to the deterioration of environmental conditions inurban conglomerates and localities nationwide. As anticipated, theseindustrial activities increase was accompanied by an increase in ambientpollutants levels and generation of large amounts of hazardous waste. Withthe lack of a system to regulate the handling or disposal of the generatedwastes, each industrial facility was left unchallenged to devise its ownwaste management procedures. Recently, many naturally occurringmaterials have been used for different decontamination purposes. Thenatural clay mineral is considered as a good ion exchanger since it is easilyfound and have low cost and high capacity in removing the heavy metalsand organic compounds. The objective of this work is to study the sorption behavior of someheavy metals present in the industrial waste solutions using some clayminerals materials collected from different locations in Egypt. In this concern, Five clay samples collected from Sinai, El-Saff, EI-Payoum, Bahryia and Aswan were used for this study. The adsorption studies were carried out in two stages. In the first stagebatch process equilibrium was carried out for single component usingsynthetic solutions with initial concentrations in the range between 2.5 toIOmg/l ofPb2+, Fe3+ .ce” and Zn2+ respectively.
