Abstract:
Youth hostels are among the institutions of society. Society affects these hostels and is affected by them. The most important feature which distinguishes these youth hostels is that they have an international quality. This quality has its influence not only on the national level, but on the international level as well.Youth hostels movement aim to provide the youth with an integratededucation. Moreover, it has a role in achieving the principles of anternationalmutual understanding and in spreading world peace. In spite of that, thismovement is still regarded as a new experiment in some countries, which hasnot received an adequate amount of study. Consequently, the present studyis an attempt to shed light on this movement.The Research FieldDespite the uniformity of the mission assigned to youth hostels, this doesnot mean that hostels are similar in their design . This is becauseevery hostel should be a new experiment that can be inf luenced by its location,surrounding environment, and the educational objective aimed at. Thisstudy will be concerned with handling the design of youth hostels.The Research Aims:Since the field of this study is new and has not been dealt with in previousresearch in Egypt, this study aims at the following:Reaching youth hostels design criteria regarding the relationships betweenthe elements, the design requirements for each element, the architecturalcriteria for each element, and finally the architectural composition of thehostel and its relationship with the location.Studying Egyptian youth hostels, and the effect of the Egyptian environmenton the youth hostels experiment.Setting down a plan for completing a series of youth hostels in some areaslacking such hostels in Egypt.
