Abstract:
The effect of aflatoxins B1 and G1 on the mitosis, meiosis and protein banding pattern have been studied .1- Mitotic studies:The results obtained shows that there was no significant change in the mitotic index even after treatment with the highest concentration . On the other hand increasing the time duration caused a decrease in the MI which increased with icreasing concentratTreatment of V. faba root tips with AFB1 and AFG1, affected an increase in prophase index compared by a notable decrease in the metaphase and ana-telophase index relative to the control after all treatments.Cytological examination of dividing cells revealed an aboundances of doses dependent chromosome abnormalities produced by the applied treatments of AFB1 and AFG1 .These abnormalities involved all the stages of mitosis . Metaphase and ana-telophase scored In addition the two aflatoxins induced other types of abnormalities such as stickIess bridge lagging and micronuclei which were found in interphase , as well as in the different mitotic stages.2- Meiosis :The effect of aflatoxin B1 and G1 were studied on the meiotic division I and meiotic division II after spraying the flower buds of Vicia faba plants with concentrations 30, 40, and 50 ppm of the affected agents. The percentage of the induced abnormal PMCs in the different meiotic stages increased with increasing concentration. The abnormalities involved both meiotic division I and II were nearly similar in both treatments in their qualitative and their quantitati
