Abstract:
The analysis of bulk samples by Neutron Activation technique using two 241Am-Be neutron sources, each of 5Ci activity, was achieved. Studies of Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA) have been carried out on several kinds of different Egyptian building materia2000 software. The background levels of 40K, 238U and232Th nucleiwere measured before the analysis. This study demanded the estimation of the effects of γ-ray self absorption in the investigated samples. X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) measurements were done for the sake of comparison. Indium foils were used for monitoring the thermal neutron flux and for the The first Chapter, (Introduction), presents detailed information about the interaction of photons with matter, the attenuation, the absorption and the shielding of gamma rays. Also, the different types of equilibrium on successive radioactive transformatiThe second chapter, (Physics of Neutrons), discusses the neutron properties and their sources. Also the interactions and the detections of neutrons have been discussed. The third chapter, (Neutron Activation Analysis), presents the principles and the different methods for determining elemental concentrations in analyzed samples in addition to the factors affecting the neutron activation analysis.
