Abstract:
Ground tire rubber (GRT) poses a challenging environmental, economical, and disposal problem in the world because of theircrosslinked three-dimensional network structure. Rubber devulcanizationis a process in which the scrap rubber or vulcanized waste product isconverted, using mechanical, thermal, or chemical energy, into the statein which it can be mixed, processed, and vulcanized again. Inmechanochemical devulcanization of rubber that maintains themacromolecules of waste rubber, renders the sulfur passive for laterrevulcanization, is cost effective, environmentally friendly and produceshigh quality devulcanized rubber to replace virgin rubber or blended withthermoplastic material. In this work:(1) Waste rubber from end-of-life passenger car tires was successfullydevulcanized by using mechanochemical process.(2) Effects of devulcanized waste rubber (DWR) on the properties ofvirgin styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) were investigated.(3) Incorporation of a suitable amount of polychloroprene (PCR)rubber is expected to impart oil resistance, flame resistance to theSBR/DWR matrix.(4) Utilization of DWR in the Preparation of thermoplastic elastomer(TPEs) by blending with high density polyethylene (HDPE).(5) Effects of short carbon–short glass fibers reinforced together orindividually on the HDPE/DWR matrix were implemented.
