Abstract:
A lot of studies have been carried out on the geometrical parameters of etched tracks in different types of solid state nuclear track detectors (SSNTD’s). The most commonly used SSNTD is the polyallyl diglycol carbonate (PADC), known commercially as CR-39Two different types of polyallyldiglycol carbonate track detectors are used to study their response to neutrons using an array of four 241Am-Be neutron sources. Measurements of volume track density show that both types have almost the same sensitivity. FuSeveral parameters of charged particle’s track in solids are used as a measure of its energy. For instance, the diameter of its mouth opening is often used as an energy discriminator, where the diameter of an alpha-particle track developed by conventionalThe method of identifying the charge, mass and energy of charged particles are based on the establishment of a relationship between the rate of etching of detector’s material along the ion track and its energy losses. The aim of this experiment is to findIt is proposed here that the attitude of charged particles during their passage through narrow holes may be used as a measure of their energy. To test this proposition, the relationship between the total area of alpha-particles image on CR-39 detector, afTwo different types of hole matrices are used to mask the detector. A collimated normally incident beam of ?-particles of different energies, using an Am-241 source, irradiates each masked detector of both types. It is found that the total area (At) of th
