Abstract:
The sensitivity of two bacterial strains, Bacillus licheniformis and Pseudomonas oleovorans was tested for their ability to remove and bioaccumulate some heavy metals like cobalt or cesium the media. The two strains were able to remove successfully cobaltCobalt biosorption by Bacillus licheniformis was investigated in concentrations ranging from 5 to 300 mg/l. As the concentration increased, both the uptake and growth decreased, maximum uptake was found to be at 5 mg/l cobalt. While pH 7 being the optimumIncreasing the concentrations of cesium till 400 mg/l induced a significant increase in percentage of uptake by Bacillus licheniformis.
