Abstract:
ABSTRACTThis thesis deals with the petrographical and petrophysical studies for some Cretaceous rock samples collected from three different areas (west central Sinai). They are Abu Zenima area, Gifgafa area and Wadi Feiran area. The Abu Zenima area located betweeIn the present work 200 block samples were selected, 50 block samples are collected from Wadi Feiran area, 70 block samples are collected from Abu Zenima area and 80 block area, samples are collected from Gifgafa area.Lithologically; the studied section at Gifgafa area is composed of Halal Formation at base and Wata Formation at top. The Halal Formation consists mainly of limestones and dolomitic limestone with few clastics. The carbonates are predominant over the clasThe petrographic characteristics of the carbonates and siliciclastic rocks and their diagenetic features have been studied in 165 thin sections. The classification and terminology of the carbonates are described according to Folk (1962) and the depositionIn the Gifgafa area, The Halal Formation is composed mainly of carbonate rocks, with less common marl, claystone and sandstone intercalation. Carbonate rocks are the most common in the formation. They are composed of biomicrite and dolobiomicrite, and theThe Wata Formation consists mainly of carbonate rock which include dolobiosparite, polymodal nonplanar dolomite, and polymodal planar dolomite. In Wadi Feiran area the Raha Formation consists mainly of dolostone which include well crystalline dolomite rhombs and the sandstones are represented by lithic arenite. The Wata Formation consists mainly of dolostones which include biomicrite, oosparite,
