Abstract:
The study area located on the western coast of the Gulf of Aqaba. It extends about 80 Km from Dahab in the north to Sharm El Sheikh in the south. It is situated approximately between longitudes 34° 00` and 34° 45`E, and latitudes 27° 30` and 28° 45` N.The study area has two main groups of geo-engineering units. The oldest unit which is consists of granite rocks (Heib Formation). The other group which consists of sedimentary rocks (Sharm El Sheikh, Safra and Hadamiya formations). These groups of the outPetrographically, Sharm EL Sheikh Formation are grouped into : quartz arenite, sublitharenite, quartz wacke, lithwacke, arkose, conglomerate, quartzose siltstone and sandydolostone. Safra Formation is mainly composed of nonclastic rock types with subordinThe engineering tests on all rock units in the area as follow: 1) The insoluble residue analysis in Sharm El Sheikh Formation, Safra and Hadamiya formations are 92.7 %, 60.85% and 92.3% respectively. 2) grain size analysis Sharm El Sheikh Formation has thThe joint sets along the study area were studied in 13 stations, in each station we find the main direction, spacing, opening, filling, frequency and persistence. These stations were mapped to show the location of each joint and plotted in two ways: rose 5- The geological map as well as engineering geological map prepared in this study can be used as a guide for development planning of the study area. These maps give the geological and engineering characteristics of the exposed rock units. Also it can hel
